The United States Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation in Annapolis, Maryland is seeking a full-time, exempt Software Developer to join our Information Services (IS) team. The IS organization serves both the Alumni Association and the Naval Academy Foundation (Development and Athletic and Scholarship Divisions). In this capacity, the IS team serves as a "shared arm" of the enterprise. This is an exempt position and reports to the Senior Software Developer. You'll work closely with other developers, communications staff, and stakeholders to build and maintain the websites, web applications, and intranet tools that connect and support the Naval Academy community.

 

The position of Software Developer has an annual salary range of $65,600 to $82,000.

 

This position pays a competitive salary commensurate with experience and is also eligible for an annual performance-based bonus of up to 6%, when applicable. You would also be eligible for a generous benefits plan which includes medical, dental, vision, an FSA, an HSA, a fully vested 403(b) retirement plans with employer matching, 22 days of accrued paid time off (PTO) per fiscal year, 14 paid holidays per calendar year, group life insurance, short-term & long-term disability, identity theft protection, and annual opportunities for professional development. Although not guaranteed, certain additional benefits may be offered through the Naval Academy, such as use of certain recreational facilities (including the Brigade Sports Complex gym, marina and indoor/outdoor pools).

 

This position is based in historic Annapolis at our current offices located overlooking the Severn River on the beautiful grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy. In July 2023, the staff of the Alumni Association and Foundation moved into new modern offices in the Fluegel Alumni Center, which is located on the banks of College Creek overlooking the Naval Academy and downtown Annapolis.

General Description

 

This role is ideal for a developer with solid professional experience in web development who wants to work on meaningful projects in a collaborative environment. Our team primarily uses the Microsoft stack, but we welcome developers with experience in similar technologies who are eager to learn and grow with us.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Develop full-stack web solutions, from database to front end
  • Translate business requirements into practical, secure, and scalable applications
  • Collaborate on UI/UX design and implementation
  • Build and maintain APIs and integrations between systems
  • Support and enhance existing applications, including migrating legacy applications to modern platforms
  • Participate in code reviews, version control, and CI/CD processes using Azure DevOps (Git)
  • Ensure compliance with security standards (including PCI) and best practices
  • Provide support for deployed applications and help troubleshoot issues

 

Our Tech Environment

You'll be working with:

  • .NET / ASP.NET Core (Razor Pages, WebForms, APIs)
  • SQL Server
  • HTML / CSS / JavaScript (with frameworks like Vue.js, jQuery and Bootstrap)
  • Azure DevOps (Git, CI/CD)
  • Microsoft Azure & Windows Server / IIS

Bonus Experience (Not Required):

  • Blackbaud CRM or Blackbaud Internet Solutions (BBIS)
  • ORM frameworks (Entity Framework, Dapper, ADO.NET)
  • Familiarity with authentication systems (Active Directory, SSO)

 

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Strong background in web development (whether .NET or a similar stack such as Java)
  • Solid understanding of databases, APIs, and front-end frameworks
  • Experience with version control and collaborative development environments
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to evolving tools and business needs
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
