The Staff Accountant I–Accounts Payable should be mature, poised and articulate as the position will engage in frequent contact with Association and Foundation staff members, vendors and service providers. This position must be well organized, attentive to detail, comfortable working with numbers and able to work well both independently and in a team environment to meet deadlines and goals. The goal for this position is to contribute to the efficient operation and success of the department by providing quality customer, vendor and employee assistance and accurate and timely processing of payments. This is a non-exempt position reporting to Director, Investment Reporting and Special Projects.

Qualifications

• A 2-year degree in accounting and previous work experience as an accountant
• Well versed in accounting principles with at least 1 year of not-for-profit accounting experience
• Good computer knowledge and skills, and advanced knowledge of MS Excel
• Strong verbal and communication skills a must
• Good financial and analytical skills
• Good organizational and time management abilities
• Keen eye for detail and an aptitude for problem solving
• Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge/NXT and CRM a plus

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process timely and accurate entries in the accounting software system
• Update and manage assigned general ledger and sub-ledger accounts, financial data and financial systems as assigned
• Review expenses reports and calculations as assigned
• Reconcile general ledger accounts, activity and statements
• Responsibility for accurate input of Accounts Payable
• Prepare schedules and assist management prepare for the annual audit
• Serve as the technical expert in their assigned areas with a focus on the invoice and expense systems
• Provide support and advice to team members management in their assigned areas
• Perform or assist with other duties or accounting projects as assigned
